Hello!
It has come to our attention that our name is a bit confusing. We are not affiliated with the Augusta Birth Network, and yet our names are very similar. We had assumed that we needed to keep BirthNetwork in our name once we joined BirthNetwork National (BNN), but BNN has let us know that we don’t have to do that at all! They have been very encouraging about us finding a new name, especially since we’re still in the beginning stages of our group.
Since this group is not just ours, we wanted to ask for your input.
When talking about possible name ideas, we decided that “CSRA” (although a bit trickier for the tongue) would be preferable to “Augusta” because we want this group to encompass all of the CSRA and not just the Augusta or GA portion. For those who aren’t local, CSRA stands for “Central Savannah River Area.” Below you will find an explanation of why we have chosen these three names for you to choose from, as well as the poll with which to choose!
We all like the “Network” part of the name very much. I, personally, was partial to switching that to “Nexus” but as cool as “The Augusta Birth Nexus of Awesomeness” sounded, it was just a bit too over the top. Instead we decided that one of our options should contain the word “Connections” because we hope to connect the CSRA birthing community. It’s not productive to have natural birthing moms vs. epidural moms or any of those other dichotomies. We want to help all mothers to learn about more options and to unite the community for the betterment of the local birth community as a whole. That’s how we came up with the name “CSRA Birthing Connections.”
We also all really like that one of our focuses is on encouraging informed choices. Personally, I don’t even believe that one can really be said to be “choosing” if they aren’t informed about their decision. It is only once you know your options that you can really make a choice. In light of that focus of our group we chose “CSRA Informed Birthing” as another choice.
Although we have heard from several people about our name being confusing and too close to ABN’s name, we decided that there should be an option for you to choose from that included the name BirthNetwork National since we are your official local chapter. In order to give you that option, we have “BirthNetwork National of the CSRA” for you to choose if you wish!
Anyhow, enough about the options! If you wish, please feel free to vote, we only ask that you just vote one time. Please feel free to comment if you have something to say about the names or if you think of a much cooler name that we haven’t thought of 🙂
Thank you for your input!
